Architectural & Decorative Wire Coatings
Decorative wire coatings are gaining popularity mainly due to the ability to reduce costs. In the past, items such as sculptures and other decorative art pieces were cast from materials. Casting such items is not only expensive, but once a run of products is done, the caster is left with the mold, thus leaving a chance for additional runs to be made. Another way decorative wire coatings are used is to use a less expensive base material, such as wood, concrete, or plaster, and top it with the desired material, like copper or bronze. Not only does this significantly cut down on cost in some cases, it also reduces the weight. Other items like ornamental iron fencing have long been faced with an attack from corrosion, especially when located in coastal environments. A simple 2-3 mils of zinc underneath its powder coat resolves concerns of corrosion.
