Nickel Thermal Spray Wires (TH225)

Nickel Spray WiresTH225 Spray Wire

TH225 is a nickel thermal spray wire that uses a nickel base material with chromium and molybdenum. The corrosion characteristics are excellent in most environments and it can be sprayed onto most materials including stainless steel or steel. It would be for use in paper mill Digesters, shaft repairs that require corrosion resistance as well as wear properties, the general coating material for all 300 series stainless components.

Average Bond Strength:

3,100 PSI (tested on ordinary steel in accordance to ASTM C 633-79). TH225 is self-bonding to materials with moderate hardness, whereas a 3-5 mil surface preparation profile can be obtained. For spraying onto hard materials where a surface profile cannot be obtained, a bond coat of TH-200 is recommended.

Thickness Limits:

Coating thickness is dependent on several factors one being the substrate hardness and ability to obtain a quality surface preparation. Unlimited coating thickness can be applied with the proper procedure for some applications.

Nickel Based Spray Wire Hardness:

The as-sprayed general hardness is Rb 90 with islands of oxides that reach Rc50, the softer matrix material quickly surface hardens with surface rubbing by seals or o-rings.

Spray Parameters:

1/16" (1.6mm), 3/32" (2.3mm) diameter wire Current, Amps 150-350 Volts 33-36 Air Pressure, psi 90-100 Spray Distance 6"-10" Thickness Per Pass 1-2 mils

Surface Finish:

The sprayed coating is best finished by grinding, an RMS 12 or better (mirror) finish can be obtained by grinding and polishing.

Spray Rate:

TH225 sprays very well and is considered one of the smoothest spraying wires with trouble free operations. 1/16" (14 gauge, 1.6mm) and 3/32" (11 gauge, 2.3mm) wire provides excellent coatings where finish machining is required.

Use:

TH225 is recommended for coating nickel alloy materials, 300 and 400 stainless steels, and ordinary steels, and is a direct replacement for alloy class 625. The sprayed coating will resist corrosion and pitting for sea water and many chemicals, it is an excellent coating for a corrosion barrier coating for 300 series stainless steel.
